A4 and US Letter

I need a LibreOffice Letterhead template. The letterhead should say Fedora, not Red Hat. The footer should include the information about how Fedora is a sponsored project of Red Hat, similar to our website. There is no need for a physical address or phone number. Please include the fedoraproject url.

I'll work on this.

Any update? I have a pending letter :)

Here's a pinboard on it:

@maryshak1996 is checking in with @nb on this; if he doesn't have time she'll pick it up.

Hey @maryshak1996!

The freedom / featires / friends / first i think is too much in thr logo clearspace.... i think Id just drop it and the keyline.

What font is in the footer area? Is it open sans? Id unbold it.... the sponsor message i think id also make smaller.

There should also be an address line. Whomever is sending thr letter can edit it to theirs, but youll want to have a filler one "123 Freedom Way, Open Source Land, USA 12345" or something lile that.

I absolutely love the field of voice bubbles in the lower right but it feels a bit heavy relative to the page (high contrasy + size). Maybe scale down just a tad? Could also balance it by putting top fedora logo in top right, right aligned, with lrft aligned address below it aligned to left size of logo?

I really like the 4Fs in the logo space and hope it can stay.

I like the bubbles, although it would be nice if the midpoint of the triangle occurred in such as way as to not destroy the printing. Otherwise we need to leave a lot of whitepace at the bottom on longer letters.

I do not believe the address line should be integral to the design. There will be letters where one is not provided. As the Fedora Project doesn't have a corporate address, it would be nice to see Red Hat's address in the footer.

I am envisioning this letter head as being used for official letters I write as FCAIC.

Here's an update that gives the Fedora logo some more room by moving the 4 f's to the bottom, deemphasized the 'sponsored by' section, added an address field, scaled down the fedora bubbles, and changed the alignment of the text elements

I believe we need more lines for address to accomodate non-US addresses. I also would like to see the address be able to be an optional element. I feel like deleting it here will cause problems.

Could we move the address below the header line? This way deleting it is less noticeable.

I think we can get name and title into the letter content reasonably.

Any update? This is blocking a letter for @yulytas

@maryshak1996 Great work on the latest iteration! A few more tips:

  • I still think that top keyline should be dropped. Take it out and take a look. I think it'll look a bit cleaner and you'll find with both left and right aligned text in the header, that the header space is defined well enough without the keyline.

  • I would make sure the left side of the bubbles triangle, the left side of fedoraproject.org, and the left side of the address are all aligned. Right now they're stairstepped in an inverse way and it draws the eye kind of in a distracting way.

  • I would try open sans light for the address lines and sponsor line in footer, and open sans normal weight for the fedoraproject.org and 4f's. we take a lighter touch with open sans in fedora materials generally so you want this to be able to hang together with those.

  • think about dropping the bottom key line too. i know, i know. but we tend not to use keylines at all in fedora designs.... at the least try a lighter touch with it, maybe fedora blue instead of a black or dark blue?

Thanks for the feedback @duffy @bex !
I dropped both of the keylines, checked/adjusted alignment, made the above updates to the font weights, and reworked the address section so that it's below the 'fedoraproject.org', so if anyone chooses to not use an address then it won't look weird
fedoraletterhead3.pngfedoraletterhead3.svg

How much vertical space does the collection of F bubbles leave for actual letter content?

I like the top version better.

Looks good.

@bex I think that the bubbles leaves a fair amount of room for content but I can definitely scale it down for increased space within the next 24 hours
@duffy any more feedback on the status of the letterhead (assuming that I scale down the bubbles just a bit)?

@maryshak1996 just some minor nits -

  • logically having fedora url above recipients address doesnt seem clean. You know why... the keyline linked it to the right aligned logo before and now they are disconnected. Easy cheap ttick to fix.... just move the whole block of text w fedora url + address lines such thay the fedora url is bottom aligned with the fedora logo in the upper right corner. maybe give a little more space between recipient addy and url line. If u feel header is too tall, could always scale down fedora logo.

  • little trick that might look slick - right justify recipient address (but keep in upper left corner)

Think thats it. Great work :-)

This looks good. Can we get it in LibreOffice to make it usable?

I put it together as a libreoffice template here:
libreoffice-template.ott
And here is a sample of the template used with content-text for an example:
libreoffice-template-text-doc.odt
And lastly, here is what it looks like in print (colors print great!):
letterhead-test-print.jpg
And I do want to point out that if anyone has a document requiring extra content space the bubbles graphic is removable (contributor just needs to double-click in to the footer space and delete it if needed)

Thank you for doing this. When I open it in LO, the fedoraproject.org component at the top is bleeding over the address space.

Also, I have a really long title, so I couldn't get my name and title on one line. This is not necessarily a bug, but we should test it a few times to make sure it could work.

Thanks @bex , I did a little troubleshooting and anchored each of the elements to the page in the location that they are in (so, in theory, they will have static position regardless of content), shifted the contact header section to the right a bit, and made the text box for that section longer to accommodate longer amounts of text
Here's the template
libreoffice-template2.ott
And here's a sample of how the template looks when filled out with those updates
libreoffice-template-text-doc2.pdf

@maryshak1996 @bex what is the status of this ticket? Is the work complete / can we close it out? Thanks :)

@duffy I believe that the design work is done with this one! @bex do you need any more design changes/ does the updated .ott template work correctly?

closing this, please feel free to reopen if there's more work needed!

Thank you for doing this. I am sorry I got distracted and didn't get feedback in sooner.
