Hi @searchsam -

We already have an official business card template (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Business_cards) and I don't believe we should have more than one. However, the current one is dated and the fonts at least need to be updated. @mleonova is going to take a look at updating the current template. Please do not the designs you've attached - we have an approval process these things need to go through, but I am sure we can integrate some of your ideas into the official template.

@searchsam also - did you create these? you should join the fedora design team if so :)

Yes, I did the design. I would like to join the design team.

Hi! So first of all I took the old template and updated fonts and website address. Then I took a business card example with many lines of text and toyed with an idea of centered alignment. I feel that the current layout is the most fortunate, as it incorporates all the elements, has a grid and looks most professional.
@searchsam I believe we need to keep the whole Fedora logo, because the back is optional and we need the card to say fedora.
Here's a png I worked on, I would love to hear what you guys think:

Hello, I totally agree with leaving the full logo on the back, what I really want is to make the card vertical and not horizontal, do you think that is convenient?

@searchsam ok, I get your point! I personally find the horizontal design more aesthetically pleasing, as it allows for more whitespace and structure. I think we can bring this up for discussion at the next design meeting. Do you agree?

I'd like to see us have choices here. Can we have both a horizontal and a vertical design? This way the ambassador can make a personalization choice?

We can modify the generator to support this and we can also force horizontal when line lengths are exceeded. (I assume in both cases :) )

@bex if we can have both, I'm all for it!

I know of no code blocking reason we can't.

Of course I agree I want to know the opinion of the design team.

+1 This would be ideal.

@bex @searchsam so I talked to mizmo, and we can totally do both. Let me know what kind of files you need, @bex

@mleonova I believe SVGs would be ideal. Let's at least start there please.

Svgs are fine for generation but you really need cmyk pdf w embedded fonts for thesd to come out correctly w printers.

That preview looks terrible on my laptop, I suspect that's because I didn't convert fonts to outline.

I've noticed a few things to think about:

  1. The url is inside the contributor info block. This means that we don't have it anywhere else. Should the business card let the user change this? (whether we want getfedora.org or a different one is another issue).

  2. There is no GPG key on the horizontal format - also what about longer fingerprints?

  3. There is no phone number on the horizontal format.

@searchsam I don't see you're feedback on this design - did you have additional comments?

Lastly, I am attaching a version with my details for you to proof as looking right. I know my title is cut off on the vertical card and I don't expect it to fit (as much as I love that design).

Also, not doing outline is better for my code to generate from - I like this format!

PS: I will not do serious work with this before October 16 as I have bit of travel.

The next step for me to do will be to generate full text svg's for both formats.

The url is inside the contributor info block. This means that we don't have it anywhere else. Should
the business card let the user change this? (whether we want getfedora.org or a different one is
another issue).

I also think that this is for another issue.

There is no phone number on the horizontal format.

both the horizontal and vertical versions should contain the same information

Lastly, I am attaching a version with my details for you to proof as looking right. I know my title is
cut off on the vertical card and I don't expect it to fit (as much as I love that design).

For this case, you can pass the subtitles to two lines instead of one, so it would be fine, but I do not know if it is possible from the business card program.

Maybe ...

It would help if @mleonova could tell us the number of characters (m-widths?) on a line so we can break it appropriately.

@bex I have put all the info on both cards and am attaching the svg, as we agreed. The horizontal layout does seem preferential for longer names and titles, since it all just fits.
I am not a 100% sure how to calculate m-widths, but look like ~16 characters fit on a line in the vertical layout.

@mleonova what's the status on this one? Also - it looks like Cantarell, is that right? We should probably use Open Sans (and maybe Montserrat for the person's name?)

Hey @mizmo! The name, position (and the 4 foundations on the vertical card) are in Montserrat, everything else is Open Sans. svg previews very weird on my laptop, but it's the same as the png attached.
I think so far we have agreed in using both designs, and @bex will work on the code when he gets a chance.

@mleonova OH OK fantastic. yeh that's what it was - the SVG was showing up. Sorry, I'm used to the days pagure didn't do SVG preview :flushed:

Since the design end is done i'm going to close this out!
