Does anyone know what the names of the rooms are this year? @duffy

Here's an idea for Registration as well as a general one that we can sub in the room names once we know them

Hey @maryshak1996 !

These are great, I love the rope outline you have around the edges. I do worry (you may notice a theme as I'm catching up with tickets and giving feedback) that these don't speak as closely to the main Flock Cod / 2017 assets as I think might be expected. Is there any way you can bring in some of those other elements into this so we have a more consistent look/feel?

This is a pretty good list of the assets we have that you could pull from:
https://pagure.io/design/issue/519#comment-443408

Here's the list of room names:

  • Grand Ballroom I/Osterville A&B
  • Grand Ballroom Foyer
  • Grand Ballroom II
  • Centerville A&B
  • Orleans A&B
  • Bass River
  • Cape Cod
  • Barnstable I

Those are the hotel names so they know which specific rooms to configure at what time. We can simplify to this for our own use:

  • Grand Ballroom I
  • Grand Ballroom Foyer
  • Grand Ballroom II
  • Centerville
  • Orleans
  • Bass River
  • Cape Cod
  • Barnstable

Thanks @duffy for the feedback! Here's the latest versions with the updated room titles

HI @maryshak1996 ! These are really great! I love the layout and the elements. However I'm concerned about readability - try printing one out, put it on a wall and step back a couple meters ;) Do you think we could switch text from white to green?

@mleonova do you think that this sort of treatment on the room titles would be a bit more readable from a distance? I just reversed the layering affect and made the outer text layer the dark teal and the lower text layer white to make the teal pop even more

Hi @maryshak1996 ! Yes, I think this is great!)

@mleonova awesome, thanks! Thinking ahead to printing, do you think I should prep A4 or US Letter PDFs? @duffy what do you think?

Gotcha @duffy ! Updated the sizes and have the signs here in SVG, PNG, and PDF from Scribus (do we need to do a CMYK conversion with this since it's non-standard colors?) I'll do a test print and see how they're looking too :)

@maryshak1996 Jen Madriaga is ordering laminating sheets for us so we can do these in-office along with the party QR posters :) so feel free to go ahead and get them printed out. I would say maybe 2x signs per room, maybe 3x for the bigger rooms, and 4x party poster signs.

Please hold printing until we have the Sponsor information for Named Rooms.

It looks like we will have three named rooms. Perhaps the signage could be the same with the words, "sponsored by XXX" and a logo.

Are the rooms.named after the sponsors or are the sponsors naming them smtg else? (Would not make sense to say sponsored by N if N is also the name.of the room)

Let's retain the hotel naming for the rooms as that will make it easiest on the attendees. We can "name" the rooms by putting the sponsor on the room sign.

Cool that sounds ideal. @maryshak1996 do you have the sponsor logos to start mocking this up?

@duffy @bex I haven't heard yet what the sponsors are/ don't have logos except for OpenSuse and Red Hat
I'm assuming that the logos for this are the same ones that will end up on https://pagure.io/design/issue/520 right?

Is it possible to get Fedora on these signs? I'd like any pictures of them to actually mention the distribution :)

The tracks are broken as follows:

Track 1: Grand Ballroom I & Osterville A&B - sponsored by Red Hat (6)
Track 2: Grand II (4)
Track 3: Orleans A&B (2)
Track 4: Centerville A&B sponsored by openSUSE (same as t-shirt) (2)
Track 5: Cape Cod (2)
Open Track: Barnstable I (2)
Registration (4)

Note Cape Cod is distant from the rest of the rooms. It would be nice to get 8 directional signs (4 left and 4 right)

The number in parenthesis is the number signs I think we need.

There may be another sponsor added. Do you have a process for getting these printed?

Hi @bex, just a couple of clarifying questions/comments

Yes, I can the Fedora logo on these, no problem
Are you saying that the titles on the signs should say "Track 1", "Track 2", etc. (then with the room names as like subtitles)? I'll add the appropriate sponsor logos for now
I can put together those directional signs and post them here by the end of the day today to get moving with process
I can add on any additional sponsor logos once you tell me who it is/ give me their logos
@duffy and I had discussed getting signage printed locally and laminated here in the Boston office

Sounds good.

Since we are laminating, can we use the office's color printer? There is no need to use special paper if you're just going to laminate it :)

Sounds good :) Yup, we were planning to print in the office anyway so no worries there!

@maryshak1996

The sponsor logos are invisible, in my opinion. I was going to tell you that sponsors were listed here: https://pagure.io/design/issue/517#comment-450878 but then I saw the sponsor logo as I was scrolling down to type this.

Our sponsors have been very generous in making this conference happen. Their logos need to be visible and large.

On a personal note, white on pastel continues to be a color contrast that is very hard for my eyes to process. I don't think I am unique in this regard.

Hey @maryshak1996 -

One idea for the sponsored signs is to do the room name / sponsor logo as a centered set of two columns - room name in left col and sponsor logo in right (or vice-versa.)

Another idea wpuld be to raise the water level since that blue is darker for better contrast w white logo, put sponsor logos on dafk blue, and move cape cod text line to below flock logo up top?

@maryshak1996 a few things....

  • the sponsor logos need more clear space. Scale them down like 75% for that

  • the track number is way more prominent than the room name. Are we still using room names? If not consider making room as a small footer / note for person hanging sign. If we are still using room names they shouldnt be so far down the visual hierarchy from the track numbers. Remember that these are for way finding so most important, 20' away data should be room name.if thats what talks are scheduled w.

Also we should maybe consider a separte sponsor sign for sppnsor rooms to be hung nextto primary sign.

I'm not real clear on if room names are still a thing or if the rooms are just being labeled with the track that they represent... Here's a set of signs where 1.) the sponor section has been scaled down, 2.) I swapped hierarchy of track # and room name
I also threw together a quick/simple "Sponsored by..." sign for Red Hat and OpenSUSE if we decide that we want to just do away with the logos on the room signs themselves. I just did the rope frame and a white background so that the logos don't get lost in a background

Also, @duffy do you have any feedback on the directional (left/right) arrow signs?

I like the separate sponsored by signs as it makes life easier.

The Rooms are presumably well labeled in the hotel with their formal names. I don't recall the actual signage at the moment.

That said, let's plan to dump the track names entirely. There isn't any real significance there and it is creating lack of clarity. So let's go with signs that are going to catch the eye with the room names only.

We could also dump all but the separate sponsor signs if we wanted ... WDYT?

New Room Sponsor - Capital one (logo in https://pagure.io/design/issue/520)
Room: Track 3 - Orleans A&B

So we're going back to the signs having just the room title on them (no track number or sponsor logos)? As shown below:
Flock17ballroomI.pngFlock17ballroomII.pngFlock17barnstable.pngFlock17capecod.pngFlock17centerville.pngFlock17orleans.pngFlock17osterville.pngFlock17registration.png
And here is the Capital One sponsor logo sign
Flock17CAPITALONE.png
I think that these two signs (the room name and the sponsor signs) will look quite together and the room signs in particular are good representations of the Flock 2017 brand overall :)

+1!

There is a new named room. I'll post the logo in the T-shirt thread.

We may get one more - but they know they need to get it in ASAP!

All looks good to me. I believe you have everything you need for printing and laminating, right?

@bex Great! I believe we do yes; @duffy are we still all set to print/laminate these in the Boston office? Maybe next week?

@maryshak1996 are you going to be in thurs? That might be a good time to print them if so.

@duffy I am going to be in the Westford office on Thursday for the intern expo :/

@maryshak1996 oh right, no prob.lets plan on next Tues!
