#448 advertising Magazine and CommBlog on AskFedora
Closed: Fixed 2 years ago by duckution. Opened 7 years ago by viorel.

= phenomenon =

We would like to use AskFedora as another place to advertise articles published
in Magazine and CommBlog.

= reason =

AskFedora is a busy site and we're thinking that 1) articles will get more
visibility and 2) advertising allows us to "republish" articles, that is draw
attention on important topics published previously

= recommendation =

We need the Design team's help to advise on whether this is feasible and where
the said ads can be added.

Thanks!

We could put something together quickly though for the meantime and then do something better for the new UI.

viorel, are you an ask.fpo administrator or do you have a contact who works on ask.fpo? We can't start work on this ticket without approval from / contact with the ask.fpo admins.

puiterwijk said to contact him: Patrick Uiterwijk puiterwijk@redhat.com

ok I'll ask him today for an ok on this

okay he has okayed it so this ticket is good for a designer to work on

Hello. I'm the designer for this ticket, and I'm looking for some clarity before proceeding.

Have we established the size of the ads (something like "X pixels wide by Y pixels high") or is that part of the scope of this request?

Does the Design Team also need to provide the CSS/HTML code for the ads, or just the graphic elements?

Do we need to just provide two ads for now, one for Magazine and another for Community Blog? Or do we need to provide ads/links to specific articles and posts? If so, which articles/posts?

Thanks,
pgpattison

Viorel,

Do you still want to move forward with creating some quick ads for Magazine and Comm Blog to go on the existing Ask Fedora site? Or would you rather just wait for the new UI (ticket #199)?

Palmer (pgpattison)

@viorel @duffy Need some guidance here. Questions to the original requester have gone unanswered, Are we proceeding with this, or waiting for ticket #199 after all? -Palmer

Sorry @pgpattison I must have missed your earlier comment. WRT to waiting for #199 I'll have to defer the answer to someone who drives the change in that ticket.

Those are all good questions for someone familiar with the Design Team standards. For installation or setup I believe @puiterwijk is the contact as mentioned above in the discussion thread.

@pgpattison #199 has the initial design up in staging (see link in last comments); i would design something flexible for either the current ask.fpo template or the new one in staging.

we do not have a standard size for the ads. I would try to work based on industry standards; maybe select a size that would fit well in either ask.fpo template. You can look up the standards on sites like this: http://designerstoolbox.com/designresources/banners/

This is just for two ads: one for Magazine, one for Community blog.

IS there any other info you need to move forward on this one? Note any designs need to follow the logo usage guidelines at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo/UsageGuidelines. I would advise avoiding the Comfortaa font and instead using Open Sans for copy text and Montserrat for headlines.

it was closed for a reason, as we havent running the new ask.fp.o yet until then it makes no sense to work on it. Its more to push that we get the new ones rolled out

@gnokii this ticket wasn't closed.... its still open.

thought it was closed with status none, but I still think best way to get this done is doing a usability review of the new one and roll it out now and then work on it

Closed as no longer relevant.
