Users listed below have at least three or more edits to the [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/PromoBanners wiki page].

I know many of these edits were made pre-2010, so it's possible many of the above listed names are no longer active.

== Why? ==
This is something that I think is of interest to users of Fedora to show off and have some digital pride about their operating system to others in a community. The reason I am filing this ticket is from someone who asked about it in a [https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/marketing-year-in-review/#comment-363 comment] on the Community Blog.

However, before I was involved as a contributor, I frequently looked for updated banners to use in forum signatures on other communities and forums I participated in. Therefore, this comment reminded me of the same want that I had a long time ago too. I think it would be a good interest to look at redesigning these banners to a more modern / clean look, and then maybe making them more release-generic, allowing them to be reused for future releases.

I meant to clarify before I made the ticket, but the deadline is very flexible… obviously, there is not an urgent need to have them done by F24 (seeing as they were last updated around F13 / F14 time or so). However, I thought that the next release would make a good deadline as this might be when users start looking for them more.

Having them available for the next release would also come with the benefit of extra promotion and exposure if an article highlighting them were to be published on the Magazine at the time of release too.

We complete updated banners as part of our regular tasks, see https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F23_Artwork/Submissions/Banners

If you are looking for something different than those, please clarify. For now, closing the ticket.

We discussed this at our most recent marketing meeting.

We think that a lot of the images on this page could be updated to more generic, release-neutral images that can be used by Fedora users / fans in places like forum signatures, embedded in websites, and so on. The images updated every release are a smaller subset of these images.

We believed that updating chunks of these images would be best, but updated without making mention of specific releases, to increase their lifespan and make them reusable for many releases to come. It also seems like this page in particular gets a lot of traffic by regular Fedora users as well.

[https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/PromoBanners]. This is a very old wiki page (last change in 2010 year) , and it's not actually. I will try to research this issue to create a new point of our promotional banners page.

This ticket was closed on purpose, we had an conversation about exactly that topic back on our FAD in January 2015. This page is not served anymore for a reason! This wiki pages become very fast trash dumps for everybody and we have to clean it. And second reason is nobody uses them, and when there are banners needed in a special size you can open a ticket, but we will not produce banners for no reason anymore. We skipped that. So accept it

If you want to show that you proud of Fedora you can use the banners we provide for each release.

I think the issue with this page specifically is that all of the graphics are very release-specific, and so after a single release, they all become outdated and irrelevant. The idea that we were proposing was that the images be updated to be release-neutral, giving them a much longer lifespan than single release images.

Therefore, users could download things like forum signatures, small little badges like the ones at the bottom, and so on without having to have them updated every six months, which is a lot of unnecessary work on the Design Team to update a large quantity of images every six months.

And second reason is nobody uses them, and when there are banners needed in a special size you can open a ticket, but we will not produce banners for no reason anymore. We skipped that. So accept it

I agree that the wiki is often a mess and not the best place to store images, but this page is something that is commonly visited, and users have commented on the Community Blog and on other sites about this specific page. At the very least, if there is absolutely no interest in designing release-neutral versions of some of these images (e.g. forum signatures, small badges, or blog icons), then the wiki page probably needs to be denoted to represent this and redirect to the pages or category for release-specific artwork that the Design Team is already producing.

If there is no interest by any others on the team to update this, CommOps can help with the wiki gardening side of things. But if it were possible, I'd like for this ticket to at least be discussed at the next Design Team meeting with the points I've mentioned to consider. I know you all have a lot of work on your plate as is, and that's why there is not really a "due date" for this ticket, but it's something that I do believe a lot of users are actively interested in and searching for already.

Our old distribution model release banners is not relevant. Banner is not located on the main page, and the script does not work anymore in the user blogs, it is difficult to find in the wiki. We do not have banners of different sizes. I have been studying this issue at the moment and try to prepare the new page template to accommodate our promotional banners (without taking into account the specifics of the release). It takes time. Be patient.

Thanks for the info, inkscaper. I totally understand that this is a time-consuming process – thank you so much for putting in the cycles on this. Looking forward to seeing what you find and put together!

I think we need to create multiple sets of banners (for our products, community, release) based on standard sizes to advertising, for example -> http://www.iab.com/guidelines/universal-ad-package/. To begin, I'll try to do it for our products and '''gnokii''' can be based on these sizes do sets for F24 release.

hi inkscaper, this ticket came up in triage during the meeting today - any updates on your progress?

hi Mo, I created a repository (for product banners) to work on this ticket and put the svg source and png renders files. [https://github.com/fedoradesign/Fedora-Product-Banners-Pack]

Hi inkscaper, do you need some help in getting the wiki page updated with these graphics? If so, let me know and I'll pass along the word to CommOps for some wiki gardening assistance.

Hi jflory7, sorry for long delay. I prepared draft new wiki page for web promotional banners [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Web_Promotional_Banners]. I going to continue work on the next banners pack (community).

Alright, awesome! Thanks much, inkscaper. I just went to the old page, marked it as old, and added links to the top pointing to the new page. I also added the Design Team header to the top of that wiki page. I think I'll also drop a line to the Ambassadors list linking to this page, as these are some great resources.

Think we're good to close this ticket?
