#358 Create Artwork for Cockpit banner to display in Anaconda GUI
Closed: Fixed None Opened 9 years ago by sgallagh.

  • Deadline / Release milestone: Is this for a pre-alpha, alpha, or beta Fedora release? What date do you need the artwork by to be able to check it in before the code freeze?

Fedora 22 Beta would be ideal. As early as possible for time with translation.

  • Who is the packager responsible for checking in the artwork? (irc nick, email address, fas account name.)

Unclear, but I will manage whatever wrangling is needed.

  • Brief description of the type of release artwork you are looking for. Suggestions:
  • Anaconda banner: We would like to advertise Cockpit prominently during graphical install to assist people with discovering how to manage their Fedora Server.

Suggested Copy:
"Installing Fedora Server? Browse to https://yourserver:9090 to access the Cockpit Management Console!"

Shouldn't this be part of #350?
Might be better to add a comment for this request on #350 instead

This isn't a dupe of #350. #350 is for an Inkscape template to make creating the banners easier, this ticket is for the actual banners.

Yeh, let's treat this as a separate ticket. Marking as triaged.

To anyone taking this ticket - you can design this banner for 750px wide by 120 px tall. Please submit an Inkscape SVG. The font we have been using for these kind of materials lately is Montserrat, which is a FLOSS font available readily for free online (try google.com/fonts.)

Hey Yogi! I Think this design looks awesome!!! My only suggestion - I think the text is a little too close to the bottom of the banner. Can you move it up a bit, maybe scale down the font if you need to and tighten the leading so it has a bit more breathing space?

Visually, I really like the design. However, the bigger piece of this request was about making sure that this banner instructs people to browse to port 9090 on the installed server. Without this, Cockpit is... less than discoverable at the moment.

Thanks guys,

I just update the font and the words to instructs people to browse to port 9090.

Thank you, but the text "Cockpit makes it easy to administer your Fedora servers via a web browser on port 9090" is a bit awkward.

I suggested an alternative in the ticket description: "Installing Fedora Server? Browse to {{{https://yourserver:9090}}} to access the Cockpit Management Console!". This might not fit in the available space, but could you try to come up with something closer to this? The exact text of the URL is strongly recommended, since it tells people exactly how to reach Cockpit.

How about that?
I'm not good enough at making words.

Can you switch {{{http://}}} to {{{https://}}}, drop the curly braces and add the word "to" between "Browse" and the URL?

So the text would be:
{{{
Browse to https://yourserver:9090 to access the Cockpit management console in Fedora Server
}}}

Just one comment: Cockpit is an "admin interface" not a "management console".

This last version looks good to me. Thanks!

Can you please attach an SVG version of this banner so I can get it into the release?

looks like this ticket is complete. Please feel free to re-open if I missed anything / if you need more help.
