#32 Shomyu web application logo
Closed: Fixed None Opened 14 years ago by ianweller.

Requested by Mathieu Bridon:

Shomyu needs a logo. From its homepage: "Shomyu is a free web application that allows members of a community to locate themselves and add a small description about them." (I'd love to see that integrated in FAS, but that's another story).

Assigned to inkscaper (Alexander Smirnov)

Instead of my own email address, I set the shomyu mailing list as CC, so that other contributors can also follow the advancing of the work.

Mathieu please your comments.

Thanks a lot for your proposal !

I'm not really confident with having the name of the application in the logo. IMHO, this has two disadvantages:
* it complicates things if we ever want/need to change the name of the application in the future
* it associates visually the application with a font

Now, to the good critics :)

I like the globe idea, and the one you drew is really nice !

Now if I may add some few things, here are a few ideas. To me, shomyu is about two things: « mapping » and « people ». Your globe perfectly covers the former, but a globe alone might be a little too « simple » or classic (it is already used for the Epiphany logo for example).

As an example of the « people » concept, I really like the [http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Archive:Artwork/DesignService#smolt_Banner smolt banner].

Now, those were simply ideas that crossed my mind lately, and I have absolutely no idea if those are valid or not (I have less than zero graphical skills), and I don't want to influence or limit you in your creativity, you're the expert :)

Hi!

I'm created new variant of logo.

Base on:

  1. Simbol globe from dots.(it's « mapping »)[[BR]]

  2. Three mens. (it's « people » and « meeting »)

What do you think about this concept.

Thanks!

Alexander.

I just received a notification that this ticket had been modified, which reminded me about it.

I'm terribly sorry I never gave any feedback on your work inkscaper. I haven't had any time to really work on Shomyu for some time now, and I'm not sure I'll even be able to continue the project (also, Susmit's webapp, although much more limited in scope than Shomyu, has one pragmatic advantage: it works and is deployed).

As such, I think it would be better to close this ticket, to avoid having another designer wasting his time on creating a logo for an application that might not have a developer any more. :(

That's totally cool Mathieu, thanks for the update. It's great work Alexander, and I'm sure at the least is a good item for your portfolio, right?

Closing the ticket.

Thank you Máirín. Don't worry Mathieu. It's was good study for my start in Fedora Design Team.
