#210 Update fedoracommunity maps with Russia in EMEA (not APAC)
Closed: Fixed None Opened 12 years ago by shaiton.

From the Russian community[1], Russia is in EMEA.
From within the Fedora wiki[2], Russia is in EMEA.

Hence, please update the fedoracommunity maps to match this assumption.
I don't know about the Kazakhstan…

There are some pics to update[3].
You could attach them here I will then update websites.

I haven't forgotten this one :)

I think so. I can't check today, could give you precise info tomorrow I needed.

Ok, from the repo there are 4×2 pictures to update.

This is mizmo who did it, if you need to check something she could remember (like picture extraction?).

Then we will have to update static/js/jquery-worldmap.js

Does anyone know where the SVG sources are for these images? Its kind or hard to update these just as the PNGs because they are pretty small...

May be this?

Any updates on the issue?

Ryan is going to take a look at this ticket this week.

opening this one up due to inactivity. some notes for the next assignee:

  • i can't find the original source file for this design. (may be on the wiki somewhere? i'll sepnd a little time today digging but am not hopefully, we've already looked.)

  • i think the map is from a world map on openclipart.org

  • you'll need to find a worldmap on openclipart.org then size it the same as the fedoracommunity.org map and color it with the corrections to geopolitical boundaries noted.

  • if you need any help lemme know!

Hi shaiton, are the graphics bronwyn created above something you can work with or would you like them converted to PNG?

wow thanks! Sorry I have missed the notification.

May I have the original (grey) SVG? We also need to update the "worldmap-apac.png" and -emea...
See comment#4
I would prefer not to have to create theme myself, however I can of course export svg to png with the right size.

shaiton - bronwyn's internship is over so all i have are those two svg files she uploaded. :(

The reason this took me so long in the beginning was because we couldnt find the SVG sources to change the map, so it was basically impossible to do properly.

I have gone ahead and taken a new PD map from wikipedia, and then recreated all the graphics. the attached ZIP file contains the outputted PNG images and an updated JS file that should be able to just be placed in the fedora-web git repo and it should work. I had to tweak the positionings of the overlays and the image maps in the JS to get it working properly.

attached also is the SVG i used to create these graphics, just so we dont have this problem in the future.

shaition, does this work for you?

cheers,
ryanlerch

Thanks for your artwork!
It's still missing the following files, can you please provide them?
static/images/header_emea.png
static/images/header_apac.png

Also, it doesn't match the background nicely using my browser.
Is it good for you?
Changed few values: http://paste.fedoraproject.org/244805/14369953/
IMHO should not be too bad, but the EMEA png which does not fit really well.

You can have a look there (my modification not applied)
http://susepaste.org/27862713
- EMEA not nicely aligned (but probably better than the old not featuring Russia)
- EMEA map near the title not featuring Russia (not updated)

Cheers,

assigning to ryanlerch

hey ryan, doing triage at the meeting today - any luck with this one?

i'll try to get this one done this week.

Just tested this one out, and it seems to be all working.
