Zif (http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/zif/) is a lightweight and fast replacement to yum, designed to do things right. The current zif logo (http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/zif/img/logo.png) could use some improvement, or even a completely new logo.
This shouldn't be a difficult task, and we will really appreciate if you could design the logo for us.

I can also redesign the logo completely if you want.
I don't really thing this idea is good. I think a complete redesign might be better.
zif stands for Zero Insertion Force, which is also a type of socket (see pictures here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Insertion_Force) the current logo is a zif socket, but it doesn't look so good.
You don't have to design the logo in the same concept at all. Be creative.

I'll get right on it. I'll be busy this weekend so expect it Monday. :)

Welcome to the design team btw. (I'm also a fedora designer but I'm not good with graphics, I just do a bit of UI design).

Do any of these work?
Nope, sorry.

Any feedback? What type of logo do you want? I have some other ideas but some guidance would be helpful.
Blix, your mockups are very good renderings; I am glad someone of your talent is getting involved in our team! Elad and I talked about your mockups this morning in IRC and while their execution is quite good, we are worried that there isn't a strong concept to hold any of them together. We're going to brainstorm a bit and try to come up with a few strong concepts for you to go off of to develop some more mockups, if you don't mind?
frictionless concept 1 zif.png
Hi Blix, so I just attached a very rough sketch to give you an idea of one of the concepts we came up with. Since zero-insertion force is about reducing force and friction, and forces are commonly illustrated in physics with arrows, we thought maybe adding arrows at the end of some of the letters and make it look like the parts of the letters are gliding into place without much friction might be a good concept. Is this sketch something you can come up with a logotype for?

Replying to [comment:10 duffy]: I can add more effects to the image if it is to plain or simple. I can bevel the edges, add a glossy effect or even put in a reflection against the ground (and some more).

Looks awesome! Would you be happy to licence that logo as CC BY-SA / GPLv2+?

DUal licencing it at CC-BY-SA / GPLv2+ is fine!
here is a slightly updated version of the logo. Changing the colours is pretty easy, so if you dont like the green, we can try something else.
