#119 Request for new system-config-services icon
Closed: Fixed None Opened 14 years ago by raven.

I would like to ask for a new icon for system-config-services application to replace old Bluecurve one [1] with an icon better fitting desktop and current standards. It could re-use icons from gnome-icon-theme, like we did with anaconda. Program's author is aware of this request [2].

Hmm, this ticket is 2 years. Should I close it because system-config-service is replaced by systemd?

While there is systemadm from the systemd-gtk package, it doesn't offer the same functionality as s-c-services: no PolicyKit Integration, doesn't list/manage SysV or xinetd services (even though the former are wrapped by systemd), doesn't let you enabled/disable services. Therefore, s-c-services isn't likely to go away anytime soon.

I'm not so sure about the icon, I think it's a low prio item -- the gnome people are probably not so interested in having the tool very visible and I'm pretty content as long as it has an icon, and I may want to add support for non-services units which might need the package to be renamed, and artwork would have to match the new title.

This is the current icon:

Thans Ryan, now I can work on a newer version based on gnome-icon.

How is this going? Will be there a new icon?

Thanks for the reminder. I will revisit that icon.

I emailed Luya today to see if he wants to open this ticket up or if there is progress to post.

Luya is still working on this and will update with his progress when possible.

Hi Raven - Luya put together a few mockups here. Can you take a look and let us know if they are okay? If so, the next step is for Luya to build it out in the various needed sizes (16x16, 22x22, 24x24, 32x32, 64x64, 128x128)

They are all definitely an improvement over the current one and I love them. I don't know which one is the best and fits the modern GNOME better - I think Luya has more authority here. Also Nils perhaps could chime in. It's his app, after all. :)

As mentioned, complete set attached. I will display a preview below

system-config-services.2.png fits for all size.

Hi Raven, you can view the set of icons attached above. As mentioned, it also includes hight DPI and symbolic version used for GNOME Panel.Let know what do you think about this version.

It's great! I let Nils know about it in the original upstream bug report: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=562675#c2

Hi all!

Luya, thanks for the new icons. I've added this as an update to F-22(*), and hope that I've put the symbolic icon into the right spot :).

You are very welcome, nphilipp. I notice the scalable version look smaller compared to other icons so I updated the change to match the 48x48. The symbolic icon is on the right spot =)

You are welcome. Now that the system-config-services received a new fresh iconset, can this ticket be closed?

Luya

Of course, and thanks for all your help!
