imoore13's group at Allegheny College is going to pick up this ticket.

Here is some information for you folks to help you complete this ticket:

1) Our icons follow the gnome style. You can see this style here: http://people.freedesktop.org/~jimmac/icons/ if you click on the different headers (Actions / Apps / Categories / etc) you can see the icons that exist today.

2) One tactic we take a lot is to create new icons from some pieces of the ones that have already been done; reusing components helps make consistent icons. You'll very likely need to create components from scratch too, though. You can pick up the style of the icons a bit by opening up the source for already-existing icons and taking a look at how they're built.

3) Also there's a particular color palette you'll want to use, I need to find a link for you.

4) Some guidelines that are applicable to the icon style are here: http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines I think the GNOME icon theme color palette is slightly different - I will have to get back to you with more information on that.

5) You will need a Dropbox (dropbox.com) account to access the SVG sources for the GNOME icon theme icons. I've sent an invite to imoore13 so you can get access. When you sign up for your Dropbox account and get it installed let me know and I'll add you to the right folder.

Okay, there isn't a strict color palette for the GNOME Icon theme. You can certainly use the Tango palette as a guide (http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines and it comes pre-installed in Inkscape too) but the GNOME icon theme icons tend to be a bit more of an industrial / less saturated / less colorful palette. use the pre-existing icons as a guide!

Is there any progress here? We need this for F13, at least the main category icon.

Is this ticket still required?

Sure, it would still improve the security spin.

The Fedora Design team is cleaning up our Trac to help kickstart a new and improved tracking process. We are closing this ticket for lack of activity. However, that doesn't mean we aren't interested in helping you. If this ticket is important to you, please feel free to reopen and we can discuss with you.
