#106 FUDCon Toronto Building Maps
Closed: Invalid None Opened 14 years ago by ctyler.

It would be great to have building maps for the FUDCon Toronto event. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a useful map of either of the Seneca@York buildings online. I took photos of the emergency exit maps and blueprints, scaled them in the gimp, and made some notations about which rooms the FUDCon events will be held in -- I'm hoping that someone skilled with Inkscape will be able to take them and make something beautiful.

Here are the bad-rough-sketches-on-top-of-bad-photos: http://people.fedoraproject.org/~ctyler/fudcon-toronto-map-sketches.tar.gz

Some notes:

  • Needed: a letter-sized image containing a pair of maps that can be photocopied in B&W. One map will show the ground floor of the SEQ and TEL buildings (see "SEQ-and-TEL-building-sketch-first-floor.xcf") with the rooms marked; the other one will show the second floor of the SEQ building (see "SEQ-building-sketch-second-floor.xcf"). We'll put some useful info on the reverse side of the page: schedule, IRC channels, and so forth.

  • The file "SEQ-and-TEL-building-sketch-first-floor.xcf" shows the relative size and position of the two buildings and has accurate shape and scale (yes, the SEQ building is G-shaped), but the internal layout of the rooms in the SEQ building is not accurate -- see "SEQ-building-not-to-scale-reference.jpg" for the actual layout of the first floor.

  • The final maps should probably show the building in general layout only, i.e., most of the detail should be stripped out, and perhaps only the major hallways and the rooms of interest should be shown.

  • The room numbers are irrelevant, I'll ensure that we have good signage showing the room letters as given on the sketches.

  • In the TEL building, rooms J-M are inside an enclosed office area, which I've outlined in black. Doors are shown in red, but I don't know if they (all) need to appear on the map (?).

  • I'll need these files for photocopying by Thursday afternoon (Dec 3) if possible.

Thanks for considering this project.

Change of room IDs: we're switching to numbers in the SEQ building to match the live transcription IRC channel numbers.
