#1 docs.fedoraproject.org usability review & redesign recommendations
Closed: Invalid None Opened 14 years ago by duffy.

(Request from Sparks / Eric Christensen)

Problem: The current design isn't very user-friendly. Extremely efficient to update, but clunky to someone looking for something - we'll probably need a total redesign. We would be looking for two styles of pages... one for the main page and then one representing the guide with links to the multiple languages and such.

Resources: There was a usability test done a couple of Boston FUDcons ago that involved interacting with docs.fpo that may lend some insight.

Mission Statement: To redesign the docs.fpo pages such that a user can easily locate any Fedora documentation guide needed in a language appropriate for them.

Other notes: No search capability for docs atm. We are hoping to have a new CVS in place but there is still work being done to get it all packaged and such so we will be living with this current "home" for a while, still.

Started open discussion here in my blog; from this I think we could put together a quick survey:

Okay, the nature of this project will shift as in the next 60 days or so the Docs team is deploying Zikula for docs.fpo. So rather than analyzing & suggesting improvements for the current site, we'll wait until the Zikula install is brought up and suggest improvements on top of that.

Eric, please add whoever needs CC'd to this.

Zikula project meetings are held on Wednesdays at 1500 UTC (1100 EDT). I think ianweller is the liaison but if not then we'll need someone from the design team to be a part of these meetings so we will all be in sync.

Hi, I think these two recent mailing list posts I made could be relevant to the docs usability/friendliness discussion.

triaged 6 apr 2010, emailed Eric & Ian for an update.

Well, I guess we (the Docs Team) were hoping that our CMS would be in place and we wouldn't need to deal with docs.fp.o. Unfortunately it appears we will still be using the website for F13.

I think a review of the docs.fp.o website with recommendations would be a good idea and maybe we can make it better before the F13 release.

Closing this one since it's no longer relevant.
