Letter to me from Ryan Singer: OSCON has always been the middle point between completely corporate shows like OSBC and community shows like SCALE and Ohio LinuxFest. This year, OSCON cutting out many Community booths shows that the balance has shifted towards it becoming a more corporate show. And that's fine, but there are many attendees that like the community angle. That's where the fedora community comes in. BAMF will have at least three at OSCON (Niki, yourself and I). I propose that we rent somewhere like this http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/185479 for the week for about the budget of 3 hotel rooms at the conference hotel.

With this space, we can through a party intended to create the community atmosphere recently missing from OSCON. I propose we every single community org in the open source space to "sponsor" the party by bringing food and drink. For about the same price as the normal hotel sponsorship, Fedora can become the talk of the conference and possibly upstage the official branding.

It's Fedora's goal to attract a great array of desktop linux enthusiasts and developers into the Redhat ecosystem. By becoming the home-base for community partying at the conference, Fedora establishes itself as a desirable community for engineers, developers and community activists.

It's a win-win, and without spending any additional money.

Nixie Pixel is planning on attending OSCON (and maybe CLS). She plans on making some Fedora content while there. Having a decent place setup to edit videos while there will help us make a some great content. She already does have a bit of a following, and is warming to the idea that Fedora is more aligned with her mission in FOSS, and helping spread knowledge :)

This year things have changed a bit at OSCON. We have paid for a space there (already done). The future may be in doubt. This is the perfect time for us to cheery pick some potential great new contribs to the Project. The amount we already spent for our presence there says sumthin' lets go all out and make a statement

Closing this tracking ticket now. Please do include more trip reports on the wiki page for the event if any more come in and wrap up recording the final actual expenses.

Some funds still outstanding.

Closing again as this is probably as resolved now as it will ever be. I will note there were some issues with receipts after this event causing some reimbursement issues. Receipts are a MUST for reimbursement to happen and are the responsibility of the person who incurred the expenses to produce in a timely fashion.
