#119 OSCON 2016 booth
Closed: Fixed None Opened 8 years ago by rsuehle.

Time to discuss OSCON 2016! It's earlier this year (mid-May) and in Austin instead of Portland.

For the last several years, we've paid 5k for a booth in what they call the Innovators Pavilion, which used to be 2'x3'. Last year at the last minute, they upgraded us to a 10'x10' (without additional cost). Now they've decided to make all Innovator booths the 10'x10' size.

Here are the details: http://oreillyconnect.com/view/mail?iID=vPqnJWvRkkjcVBVBhRqT

Since the booth is a standard size, we will be able to reserve space on the main floor rather than in a designated "pavilion" area. However, the cost has gone up to $7,500. (All of their sponsor costs have gone up this year.)

If we would like to continue to have a presence at OSCON, I will initiate the

"contract process" are the last two words missing there. :-)

Added to the agenda for tonight's meeting.

Masta to take lead on the OSCON Event

I'm going to copy + paste the email I sent to the Ambassadors mailing list.

After discussing this, we took a vote about OSCON and it was ''unanimous'' among all in attendance to skip over OSCON this year.

As much as it is an event that is a large crowd of people, we agreed that there are better uses of our budget this quarter on making more targeted approaches to smaller communities and regions, particularly with schools, universities, businesses, and other local groups.

For the upcoming quarter, we are hoping to reflect the increased focus towards these regional events with BrickHack (March 5 -6) and Bitcamp (in April), which are focusing on university hackers at the Rochester Institute of Technology and University of Maryland, respectively. A lot of planning and work is being put into these events, and we are hoping to connect these events to tangible events with some of the resources that we can already leverage with tools in the Fedora Infrastructure.

I will add this vote to the Trac ticket in FAmNA and close the ticket. If for some reason the ticket needs more discussion, it can be reopened.

= Shared space opportunity =
As mentioned in the previous comment, this news was shared on the mailing list earlier this week. However, Fedora was offered shared space at the Red Hat booth. Jon (parasense / masta) volunteered for leading getting Fedora participants together and organized for this.

= Discussion =
The ticket is added to our agenda for discussion this upcoming week.

masta had a few updates for this ticket during the meeting. He is working with Red Hat folks about the booth setup, and where Fedora + CentOS people will fit into the space. If anyone in the community wants to give a talk at OSCON, please contact masta.

If he has any other updates, he can add them to this ticket.

In the Thursday April 14th 2016 IRC meeting, it was approved budget of $2k
