#209 Funding Request for FISL - mribeirodantas
Closed: Fixed None Opened 10 years ago by mribeirodantas.

Hello fellow contributors,

I'd like to request funding in order to attend FISL in Porto Alegre, RS, this year. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it if I don't get fund support from Fedora, since I don't have enough money to cover all my expenses.

Attached to this ticket, there are two images with values for flight tickets from Natal (my home town) to Porto Alegre. The first is from decolar.com and the second one is from GOL's official website.

'''# Activities in FISL'''
I have proposed along with Amador Pahim a talk regarding Fedora NEXT. I have been told that talks regarding distributions haven't had enough attention during FISL in recent years, so Amador and I decided it'd make a good topic to talk about Fedora NEXT. Many ambassadors are not well aware of what it is and what is the reach of the new proposals. There is no doubt then it isn't clear for the average user either. Besides, several news sources have spoken about NEXT, which may drive every sort of person to watch the talk.

'''# Why I should be sponsored'''
Above all my contributions, which are scattered among several Fedora teams, I walk with a badge on my forehead that says 'you're welcome in Fedora'. No surprise then to find me in the Fedora Join SIG. I have worked my best to find the best approaches to not only bring people to Fedora, but to make sure they will feel like home, and see straight away where they may fit in and contribute efficiently.

In the events I've been so far, I have had brilliant experiences of making old contributors come back to their contributions, convince people to start contributing to Fedora and to see how people were amazed that they could contribute so much, doing simply what they love to do.

My participation in SIGs, Localization Team, Freemedia Team, Ambassadors, Marketing and so on helps me to become a qualified ambassador to see the potential of new contributors and see right away where they could fit in. And it's been proven through the years that big events are a great place to find new contributors.

can partial sponsorship help you? did you submit talks to fisl organization?

can partial sponsorship help you?
It really depends. In other events (like Latinoware) people with sponsorship for traveling, automatically had sponsorship for hosting. Is it the same for FISL? However, if I have to choose between accommodation OR traveling expenses, I'd rather be sponsored fully for traveling expenses (flight ticket), and find some bridge to stay below on my own :-)

did you submit talks to fisl organization?
Yes. Please, read "Activities in FISL" above.

Anything pending on this can we close it?
