Event wiki page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Hanoi_SFD_2014

FAS:sarupbanskota

Event owner FAS: tuanta

== Requirements ==

Travel + Accomodation to SFD Hanoi.

At the time of writing, Singapore Airlines round trip from CJB to Hanoi is within $640.

== Additional information ==

Depending on what has already been scheduled by the SFD organizers, I can help with introductory FOSS sessions, workshop on FOSS techniques, etc.

For the Fedora Meetup on 19th, I'd like to participate in the meetings with APAC ambassadors, since I'm new and could use this opportunity to learn how the budget planning is done.

Sessions I can do (just proposing, it depends on what the other organization plans too):

=== SFD events ===
Introduction to FOSS - talk about the what, why, hows of FOSS communities.
Getting Started with FOSS techniques (workshop introducing students to tools/concepts every FOSS organization uses).

=== Fedora Meetup ===
* I can't say I can do a full length talk, but I would like to participate in Kushal's session on dealing with contributors. If the situation calls for it, I could do Curious Case of Fedora Freshmen once more (I did it previously at Flock this year).

Approved amount (for flight): $660.
(Event owner would be in charge of accommodation and ask for reimburse it separately)

You can search for your flight ticket then ask KageSenshi for help or you can purchase it yourself and get reimbursement later.

You need a Letter of approval then to get Visa on Arrival at Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi). It would be the visa type for one entrance and stay in 30 days.

I will hire a local travel agency here to issue it. Please provide your personal information:
- Full name (as on passport):
- Gender:
- Date of birth:
- Nationality:
- Passport number:
- Passport expiration date:
- Estimated Arrival date: (usually on Sept 18th)

I wouldn't mind getting reimbursed, but is it possible for me to get reimbursed via a bank transfer? Last time, it was PayPal and the charges were pretty heavy on my end. If it's a bank transfer, I still lose money, but it's relatively lower.

Keeping that in mind, it's probably more cost effective if KageSenshi could help by booking my tickets directly.

My details:

  • Full Name: Sarup Banskota
  • Gender: Male
  • DOB: 09/09/1993
  • Nationality: Indian
  • Passport Number: J9546427
  • Passport Expiry: 21/06/2022
  • Estimated arrival: Sept 18

Tuan, additionally I'd like help with answers to two questions. If the local travel agent can't help, I'll try asking a TA here:

  • At the airport, would they accept Euros for the Visa? I tried looking up a bit, it seems like USD is encouraged and I have just USD 31 with me (I have enough Euros and INR).
  • Do I need to produce any documents other than the Return Ticket, Letter of Arrival and the Hotel details? (For eg, a travel insurance?)

I got an issue in processing visa for you. The local travel agency I contacted do not provide services for Indian to Vietnam (because of market segment).
I will try to reach out some other alternative ways. However, it is best if you also can do at your side. Please check this out.

Hi sarupbanskota,

We found a local travel agency (TA) that can provide services for Indian to Vietnam. We can support you work directly with the local TA for getting the landing visa - one month/single. Please follow the following procedure:
1. Scan your passport then send to my email address (thangnguyennang1988 [at] gmail [dot] com). Besides, you have to provide additional information to me (final arrival and departure time, detailed flight information)
2. I willl send your provided information to the local TA
3. The local TA will submit all information to Immigration Department
4. After 3 working days (except Saturday, Sunday & Public holidays), Immigration Department will issue the visa approval letter
5. The local TA then send the approval letter via email to me and I will forward the approval letter to you
Important Notes:
You must print the approval letter out and show it at the airline check-in counter before flying to Vietnam
Upon arrival, you need to go to "LANDING VISA" counter where your visa will be processed. You need to fill in a form (02 passport photos size 4x6cm + passport + approval letter + 45 $US stamp fee required) and get the visa stamped by Immigration Officer
* Your one month/single visa gets stamped in the passport

Please ask me if you have any questions.

Thang

Hi nangthang, thanks for the detailed information! I'll send over a scan of my passport by tomorrow evening my time :)

Just a quick question if you could help me with it: which currencies are accepted at the landing visa section? I currently have 31USD only. I have enough euros and INR though. So if only USD is acceptable, I'll have to arrange for it.

Thanks again!

There are only two currencies accepted at the landing visa section (VND and USD).

Our local travel agency confirmed to me that your passport and flight information is ok. Currently, they are waiting for me to send Kushal's additional flight information to process my request for registering approval letter for two persons (you and Kushal).

I'll update more information to you later.

Thanks nangthang! I got your email and will follow your instructions :-)

Just updating: I'm currently unwell & traveling, so I'll try to turn in the report within the next week.

Hi everyone,

I've attached my eticket.
Here's my event report: http://sarupbanskota.github.io/fedora/2014/10/08/sfd-hanoi-fedora-report.html

I would really love it if I can be reimbursed via a bank transfer - PayPal simply has a lot of transaction fee involved. Is that possible?

Hi Izhar and everyone,

I accidentally posted in the future (lol), so I've updated my post's link.
http://sarupbanskota.github.io/fedora/2014/10/04/sfd-hanoi-fedora-report.html

I wouldn't have bothered changing the dates really, but then it was messing with planet as the topmost post.

Sorry about the confusion!

Thanks!

Hi Izhar and everyone, I wasn't very active online the last few weeks.

Can the reimbursement for this ticket please be started? If there's any more information I need to provide, please let me know.

The total is 39,172 INR ~ $637.5 (Oanda)

is this to be sent to sbanskota08_at_gmail_dot_com ?

Reimbursement: USD 637.50

Thanks for your contribution to Fedora Project!
