When LDAP/IPA backend OFFLINE state is detected during request execution (there were cached connection which failed and all failover servers failed to connect too), the backend must return DP_ERR_OFFLINE.
In SSSD 1.1.1 and the current SSSD-1.2 HEAD the LDAP/IPA backend returns DP_ERR_FATAL with EIO error.
Next request completes with DP_ERR_OFFLINE. So there is a big inconsistency in behaviour.
Agreed, this is an unexpected behavior.
