#3750 [RFE] man 5 sssd-files should mention necessary changes in nsswitch.conf
Closed: wontfix 4 years ago by pbrezina. Opened 5 years ago by tscherf.

Default NSS config when the sssd-files is used should look like this:

passwd: sss files
group: sss files

It might be that this is not always the case though. We should add a note to man 5 sssd-files and explicitly spell out which changes are needed in /etc/nsswitch.conf.

It would also be nice to explain that sssd might start the files domain on its own even without explicit configuration by the admin. Please see the option called enable_files_domain in man sssd.conf -- in discussion about documentation (https://pagure.io/SSSD/docs/pull-request/74) Sumit brought up that this should be documented better.

If you are on Fedora, you should also see the implicit_files domain running automatically on your machine, that should help see what is going on.

In the description, I would just say something like "please note that some distributions enable the files domain automatically, prepending the domain before any explicitly configured domains using the name blablabla...".

Lastly, the enable_files_domain option in the manpage could also say what is the domain name.

Thank you for taking time to submit this request for SSSD. Unfortunately this issue was not given priority and the team lacks the capacity to work on it at this time.

Given that we are unable to fulfill this request I am closing the issue as wontfix.

If the issue still persist on recent SSSD you can request re-consideration of this decision by reopening this issue. Please provide additional technical details about its importance to you.

Thank you for understanding.
