#92 Fix Pagure repo/project naming
Closed: declined 2 years ago Opened 2 years ago by pfrields.

Capitalization is counter intuitive in a URL. Since it's forced by the naming of this project, I recommend changing this project name to "fedora-council" to make it easier to discover. I'm also asking pagure search to be made case-insensitive if possible, but both fixes make sense IMHO.

+1 I guess, though I'm not bothered either way really.

I personally do not care about lower/upper cases, but I understand it might be sometimes irritating for someone. So +1 for this.

I noticed this too time ago, but would prefer to make pagure case-insensitive. "Council" with uppercase makes still sense to me, because it's a name in our case, like FAmSCo. I guess you won't have a project called famsco, so +1 but for the pagure option.

Just want to add I browsed the projects yesterday and saw Fedora-Council is indeed the only one which uses uppercase. I even decided to follow the others for FAmSCo trac and named it all lowercase.

If the change for being insensitive takes too much time we should change the name, but we need to update also the wiki pages then (or any other doc we have around).

If we change it, is it easy to add a redirect? @pingou , @pfrields ?

Pagure itself doesn't support redirect, so options are:

  • Ask infra to add custom redirect rules that would be kept forever
  • Turn off issues, pull-request, doc in the settings of the project and edit the README to with a text pointing where the project lives now

Turn off issues, pull-request, doc in the settings of the project and edit the README to with a text pointing where the project lives now

This is further complicated because the actual issues are in a project called "tickets" within the Fedora-Council namespace. Fedora-Council exists a project so that https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council doesn't 404.

I have changed my vote to "DO NOTHING BECAUSE THIS IS NOT WORTH THE RIP UP".

That's pretty much where I'm at too. I can make a fedora-council project which tells people to go here — but I'm not sure that's really helping.

Please no.

I'm going to mark this declined. Sorry, Paul. :)
