Fedora translation group has been remain long time consistent participant to making Fedora available to global audience in their local language.
In flock 2016 G11N Workshop we had discussion about designing T-shirts for G11N group contributors. On the same line proposing to provide T-shirt for participants of vFAD participants of Feodra 24 and Fedora 25 sprint.
List of participants of F24 and F25 - https://pravins.fedorapeople.org/F24-F25-translation-vFad-participants This is generated from https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/fedora-24-translation-sprint https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/fedora-25-translation-sprint
Total number of contributors is: 86 (to be safer side good to produce 100 numbers)
Requested budget: 500 Euros (This is based on earlier developed T-Shirts in Brno)
In cc, vFAD organizing team.
I think this 5€/t-shirt is only for printing and not for shipping. Probably shipping costs should be added as well. Where the t-shirt will be printed? Where are the contributor mainly located? Will be possible to bulk ship some of those t-shirts?
Replying to [comment:1 fale]:
Yes, the price is for the t-shirts themselves, shipping it's not included. They will be printed in Czech Republic as they already did this before and seem to have good price & quality. In the list, we discussed about using meetings or FAD to distribute the shirts, so instead shipping to many places (each for contributor), it's possible to ship all or almost all shirts to a single place and then distribute them. I'm not sure if there's any main location to contributors. In example, Joan Azizaj and myself are in EMEA but there are contributors in Brazil and India as well.
Hope this explanation helps.
If this is approved quickly and the printing is done quickly, I may be able to take them to the FUDCons in LATAM and APAC in my luggage, if this is helpful.
Replying to [comment:3 bex]:
That would be great. That would leave EMEA only to distribute.
That's good distribution strategy. If, approved. We will quickly run exercise of taking size and region mapping. I hope, we can discuss this ticket in 26th Sept council meeting :)
Hi Again, Can we consider this ticket for todays meeting discussion? :)
We're still waiting for good budget info. Bex is working on that and promises it by the end of the month. However, he noted in the meeting today that this is in the "we definitely have enough" range.
Let's vote in ticket here using the lazy consensus method — needs three +1 votes and no -1s by next week's meeting.
+1 and let me know if I can help make the production/shipping easier
+1
I love shirts for contributors who dedicate constantly their time to do stuff. We had awesome shirts for the 10 years, but also for F19 (You helped to unpack Schroedinger's cat - and it is alive). In both cases we awarded them for people doing stuff constantly.
I feel this is a bit too specific, it's just about a short event, and there are many people who participated just to get a badge for it, not for the sprint itself. Don't understand me wrong, but I would rather try to award a shirt to people who translate, let's say ''500-1000 strings'' or so. Even better if we could award nice shirts to people through all groups, not just L10n.
''0'' from my side.

I want to know why only selected people has been given this 10 years of T-shirt. I have been contributing to Fedora since more than 10 years. My major contribution is in package reviewing which are thousands of package reviews. I want to ask here do you see package reviewing/sponsoring is a very least honoured work in Fedora. Why was I not qualified for that T-shirt?
There are already a very rare chance for Fedora contributors to receive Fedora T-shirts. I am disappointed that you compared two different things with different goals.
Also, if I am missing here any previous discussions on this 10 years of fedora T-shirts then please point me there.

Thanks for your opinion which I will not deny based on the facts you have stated.

Like we can run query on Zanata for members contributed 500+ string over the time. I think this number will be more than people participated in Translation sprint :)

Translation group never got any specific Fedora goodies to promote activities they are doing. IMHO this is good chance to start something for Translation group.
Considering budget perspective, i think lets start small and may be in next attempt (May be F28) we can have better criteria.
If other members also feel to have better criteria like 500+ words contribution, we can definitely go for it.

Yeah, that would be better, IMHO. My concern is to have people working hard on translations and don't reward them with a shirt, just because they missed the translation sprint.

I think the goal is not different, it's the same, and rewarding contributors with a nice shirt is awesome. Let's just do it right and try to not miss anyone. Taking in consideration just a translation sprint which is also a thing for badge hunters, is probably not the right criteria. And yes, L10n folks are doing a lot of work and we should think about them!
It's off topic, but here is the wiki page for the 10 years shirt, with its criteria. I know we probably missed some people, which is sad, but it was really hard for all to put together the list.

I agree with robyduck. In fact even i thought for same (500/1000+ string) but was just wondering for numbers/budget etc. Since sprint happened recently and we have numbers ready through badge owners. Found it low hanging fruit.
Same time, in long term we have to make tradition of sprint for each Fedora release. I am thinking developing T-shirt for sprint participants can bring more participation in future. Also this time T-shirt plan for sprint participant is surprise (if happens).
But your point is valid, many participants participated for badge as well but that is one of the intention behind badges ;)
I have requested Alex to provide stats with participants over last one year with significant contribution. Waiting for his response here.
Statistics: from 2015-10-17 to 2016-10-18, translate more than 500 strings (not words)

Thank you Alex for this great work. I guess with 500 words (160 people) we are over budget, so probably strings would be better.
For the record, and lazy consensus, I'm +1 with this criteria, also if we want to change the criteria a bit to have near 100 people to reward, because we really will not miss anyone ;)
With three +1s, from bex, jkurik, and robyduck, this is approved. (lailah gave an advisory +1 but is not a council member)
Idea is great. The way to measure is better with word than strings, but to limit the number of people it is a quick and acceptable way to do.
Are we sure we have good language representation? Some little team in asian/indian/eastern europe/arabic/african languages? If we have tiny languages in the 500 words rules, can we add a few to support them?
Good Point Jibecfed. Lets discuss these few things in meeting and finalize the stuff.
Thanks council for approval.
@jibecfed, not sure if I understand you correctly, but the statistics is based on individuals contribution, not on language. So it does not matter even if its tiny language team.
Hello group,
I'd like to dicuss again about this ticket because we had not enough time to finish this task in time. I've already emailed top translators (those that aeng has listed here) to ask about their home address and I've opened a ticket at the design team for the tshirts, that's why we would like to use the required budget for this fiscal year. Really sorry for being late for this ticket, but we really want to reward those people with a tshirt. Related to shipping Brian may be able to help us because he has more experience on this.

Thanks Jona for having discussion about this during DevConf.cz 2017. Reopening for budget approval.
@pravins Is the request still the same 86 shirts @ 500 EUR? Have you gotten an updated printing quote?
@bex Yes, rather than 86, we are planning for 100 Chance of missing some members I am not sure of brno but in India, It cost more per piece for order less than 100.
Budget amount is same 500 EUR. Will update exact amount once get quote from vendor.
We asked again about the price of the tshirts, if we will print 100 tshirts they will cost $400 ($4/piece)
@jonatoni @pravins It sounds like we are about the same budget for both India an EU printing. Can you all analyze the list at a high-level and see if there is a shipping advantage for either location? i.e. are most of our shirt recipients in Europe or India?
Have you got a finalized design yet? If so, I'd like to see if we can get this to print soon. If we are printing in the EU we can run it through the RH office in Brno as it will be easier to manage shipping logistics. If we are printing in India I will find out if the office in Bangalore or Pune can help us.
@mattdm - I'd like to update the budget to reflect this. However, we know that shipping is not in the estimates. I'd like to allocate $750 in hopes that we don't need it all the overrage for shipping. Does this need a new council vote?
Hi Bex,
I confirm majority of members are from Europe, so good to produce in Brno. We need to work with you for distribution strategy.
I found from the list around 16 members are package maintainers. Their count is just from push/pull string from Zanata, in fact few members asked us to drop their name from list. After budget approval we will have translation group meeting and will decide exact count.
Metadata Update from @bex: - Issue assigned to bex
$750 has been budgeted in the council meeting on 28 June. Please work with @bex to get this completed.
This budget was allocated over one month ago. I have not seen counts or designs. Are these t-shirts actually getting made?

We struggled to get T-shirt size and dimensions due to some holidays last month. Presently we are working to getting sizes from members, then we are ready to order.
Please give us this week.
@pravins understood and no problem. I presume you are also collecting addresses?
Yes, we have divided task between us ( @jonatoni @jibecfed, me and other people ) will try to finish early.
Shirts ordered, produced and in the process of being delivered.
Clos ing.
