#409 Clarifying availability of Lenovo ThinkPad contributor discount
Closed: resolved 2 years ago by bcotton. Opened 2 years ago by jflory7.

Summary

Determine whether Lenovo still offers a Fedora contributor discount for Lenovo ThinkPad workstations

Background

On August 28, 2020, a contributor discount was announced for Fedora contributors to purchase Lenovo ThinkPad workstations using Fedora Linux pre-installed. Today, the link in that article redirects to a new URL path, which in turn redirects to a 404 error. Logging into a Lenovo account with @fedoraproject.org email no longer automatically applies the contributor discount.

Details

It is good to be transparent and open whether Lenovo still offers the contributor discount or not for Fedora Linux developers and contributors. If the program is still available, perhaps a new post could be written or the old post could be updated. If the program is no longer available, the previous blog post could be amended to update the current circumstances.

Outcome

Provide clarity for Fedora contributors looking to purchase their next laptop or workstation powered by the latest and greatest release of Fedora Linux

I've emailed our Lenovo contact.

The URL in the article isn't quite right - it has an extra '/' on the end.
Try using https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/linux

Program is still available and I confirmed with the portal team that everything should be up and operation a couple of weeks ago. Let me know if you see problems.

As a note - based on experiences we've found the portal is good when there aren't sales on the 'regular' site - so it's worth double checking both the portal and the regular site to see which offers the best prices.

Also - this years laptops with Linux preload are starting to happen. We should be starting to put those up in August (unless there are any ugly surprises).

Mark

I've updated the commblog post with the corrected link.
