#378 /r/Fedora using disallowed version of Fedora logo
Closed: resolved 2 years ago by mattdm. Opened 2 years ago by duffy.

Hi.

I have handled the Fedora logo request queue for around 15 years and I am the author and maintainer of the Fedora logo usage guidelines. They have not be rewritten for the new logo yet but most still apply and I am taking a very hands on approach to working with teams and communities using the logo to develop flexible guidelines so we all look our best.

/r/Fedora on Reddit, following an unrelated dispute, is now using a version of the new Fedora logo that is not in accordance with the logo usage guidelines. The symbol is cropped and the bubble is gone (replaced with a circle.) With the new logo rollout taking place I was hoping to keep clean versions of the logo circulating as long as possible. I am particularly concerned about this as I requested it be taken down a week ago, and the response was to ban my account from /r/Fedora.

I know there is another issue at play, but this situation with the logo can't continue. This is an audience of at least 50k ppl so it's significant exposure. Can someone on the Council help me enforce the logo guidelines on this?

Thanks for your consideration

Do we have an approved image that they should use?

Yep it's the same one used on Twitter, Facebook, et. al. They do have it and used it before the other incident.

My first question is if we know who can change the logo on the Reddit channel.

In the moderator's list, I see really cool (and reasonable) people. Maybe this can be a really easy ticket if we ping Rhea or Justin

@bt0dotninja I asked the moderators to please display the appropriate logo and was banned in response, which is why I filed this ticket.

@t0xic0der I think it would be nice for that subreddit to be more active and positive in a lot of ways. Reddit is a big audience, after all. Ultimately, though, I think it'd be best if we could draw people to our own official communication channels, where we don't have issues like this.

@duffy For the record, this is in progress with legal to figure out what we can do if we can't get to a non-legal-involved resolution, which I'm still hoping for.

Hi, I am just seeing this ticket! I think I have ultimate rights on the Fedora subreddit, but I confess that it has been a couple years or more since I was active on Reddit in general. Social media burnout!

If there is anything I can do to help move this forward, please let me know. I'm happy to change a logo but it would help me to be pointed at a hi-res version that I can download and quickly upload.

The logo issue is resolved.

@jflory7 has the issue of why @duffy was banned been resolved?

@nb We are addressing that separately from this ticket.
