#336 Update @fedora Twitter branding
Closed: deferred 3 years ago by jflory7. Opened 3 years ago by jflory7.

Summary

Update the @fedora Twitter account display picture to comply with logo guidelines and update banner image to F33/F34 wallpapers

Background

The @fedora Twitter account needs a branding refresh. The profile picture currently in use violates the logo guidelines because it trims off the Fedora bubble. @duffy actually already created a version that is compliant that is widely in use on Telegram (see attached).

This should be an easyfix task, but because the credentials to @fedora are locked down tight, I am opening this with the Council.

Details

Last I knew, the @fedora account password was encrypted in a private Fedora Infrastructure server. I'm not sure where that is, if it has been replaced, or if we manage passwords in a different way now.

Note that Tweetdeck access is not enough for this (or else I would have done it). It requires someone logging into twitter.com with the actual email address and password used for the account.

Outcome

  • Better compliance with logo guidelines, hooray!
  • @fedora on Twitter banner represents the super cool wallpaper in the latest release (instead of F29 or F30 like it is now)

What action specifically are you wanting the Council to take?

@bcotton I'm genuinely not sure where to take this request. I'm not sure who holds the keys to the castle or if it is the same situation as it was 3-4 years ago with OSAS and Fedora Infra coordinating. I used to ping Ryan Lerch or Paul Frields for these requests.

This could also be a good opportunity to identify a central contact point for constructive feedback about Fedora social media.

Alternatively, if I can ask for permission to log into the account with a password as a non-Red Hat employee (I was told "no" some years ago), I am also happy to do that and have a more active role like Ryan once did with curating the Twitter profile. But not sure who I need to ask for permission on this (i.e. Fedora or RH OSPO).

I think @bproffit has access to the account itself? I just have it through tweetdeck.

This could also be a good opportunity to identify a central contact point for constructive feedback about Fedora social media.

This sounds like the Mindshare Committee's responsibility. At any rate, it seems like a better topic for a discussion thread than a ticket at this point.

You're right on the documentation part. I was going to open a ticket for the Mindshare Committee, then I realized, I already did last year.

Pagure needs a  reaction to comments :-)

So, after @duffy's presentation yesterday, I saw that social media is being scoped into the brand update campaign. While I would still like someone to log in and update the @fedora Twitter profile pic with something trademark-compliant… but I suppose it can wait until we figure out the wider questions and strategy with the rebrand.

I'm closing this Council ticket as deferred as I feel this work is adequately tracked in the on-going logo work, but happy to revisit if others feel differently.
