#177 Migrate Diversity Statement

I believe that our Diversity Statement https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Diversity should be migrated to our project overview area: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/fedora-project/project/fedora-overview.html

I'm in favor of moving it to the council docs — there's actually a placeholder at https://docs.fedoraproject.org/fedora-project/subprojects/diversity.html.

Or do you think it goes into the Overview section, above "Code of Conduct" in the menu? You are really into ruining my nice symmetry of seven items per top-level topic, aren't you? :)

I am confused. The page linked above is the sub-project / team page for the Diversity Team (which is also not clear by URL). Is the diversity statement the first paragraph of the wiki page or does it include more? I assume you mean this:

The Fedora Project welcomes and encourages participation by everyone. Our community is based on mutual respect, tolerance, and encouragement, and we are working to help each other live up to these principles. We are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in Fedora community. We welcome participation from everyone as long as they interact constructively within the Fedora community. Please, refer to our Code of Conduct if you need more information.

If it's the first paragraph, we should clarify it is an official statement – that is not clear now. Otherwise, this makes the most sense (to me) to keep in the project overview. It's a general, encompassing statement about the project as a whole, as compared to something specific to the Council.

(I'm a little conflicted about whether it belongs in the project overview at all, actually – to me, the Code of Conduct fills the messaging role that this statement appears to address. A code of conduct should address and establish the same things that the above statement asserts.)

@jflory7 is right - I mean the statement bit, not the team page. The team has to decide where the team page lives.

If this is not an official statement we need to clarify that too as it sure looks like one ...

If we are going to use the code of conduct in place of this, then lets wait for that to settle. I mostly noticed this because I was working the transition of the diversity advisor page. I am trying to flag policies as they get unearthed.

I'm in favor of transferring this ticket to the Diversity Team Pagure. From a Council POV, I think it's best to let the Code of Conduct assert the values of our community.

I would be curious to get @marinaz's thoughts if she thinks the separation of a diversity statement vs. a code of conduct makes sense or not.

@bex Personally, I'm not seeing that. To me, it looks like an introductory paragraph for the diversity team, taking the Fedora values laid out in the Foundations and the Code of Conduct and relating them to the team's mission. Isn't the location of the statement clarification enough of that?

@mattdm I got to the page from this page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Diversity_Advisor

I followed a link that reads: Fedora's Diversity Statement is available at Diversity

This made me feel like it was official as it part of the Diversity Advisor's description. Perhaps this language needs to be modified.

Yeah, let's change that.

I'll modify the language to reflect this is not a project statement.
