#491 [Onboarding Series] QA: Filing bugs
Closed: declined 4 years ago by riecatnor. Opened 7 years ago by jflory7.

= Badge Metadata =

  • Name: Bugzilla {I,II,III,IV,V}
  • Description: You submitted your {first, tenth, fiftieth, hundredth, thousandth} bug to Bugzilla (bugzilla.redhat.com)!

= Badge background =

  1. Activities badge awarded for: Filing bugs on the Red Hat Bugzilla instance
  2. Who does this: Members of the QA team, users of Fedora, or people testing certain software in Fedora (great task for newcomers AND veterans)
  3. Why do this: Notify developers of problems in software, track and discuss the issue, use as tracking mechanism for solving the problem
  4. When do this: When problems strike… which can be any time… ;)
  5. How do they do them: Either automatically from Fedora or via bugzilla.redhat.com

= Artwork concepts =

  1. '''Bugzilla''': Literal Bugzilla. Could be some kind of giant Godzilla-like bug or some kind of dinosaur-looking bug.
  2. Panda with flyswatter and flies: Panda / badger fervently trying to swat bugs in the canvas (with increase in series, more flies and more frantic movement by the badger / panda)

Setting artwork status as proposed, CCing some members of the Design Team for review. :) I also really like the looks of this one so far too!

I really like the concept of this; super creative! I worry a little bit though about the size of the text in the speech bubble and the size of the flying fedora logos. Maybe try a version with less of the logos to make room to bump up the size of the speech bubble/ text and to bump up the size of the flying fedoras so that they will be able to been seen a bit easier at the generally small scale of a badge?

@a2batic, this looks a lot stronger I think; the design is much more easily seen now :)

Hey a2batic! Looking good! But please check in with the badges design guidelines https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-badges/attachment/wiki/DesignResources/styleguide_full.pdf; you have many elements that are way too tiny right now. Badges are not so big themselves, so you can see - on some of the 'bugs' are not visible at all. Maybe go for something minimalistic? I'm not so sure on the concept of the whole Fedora being a bug.. You can try using just the shape + adding wings to it and thicker outline.
Also the background green doesn't seem to be from the badges palette, is it?

Looking forward to your design!

Heya, @a2batic! This looks much better to me! Great stuff! Lets improve it some more: try 'zooming in' on the panda - so that it wouldn't end so abruptly in the middle of the badge - just make it bigger (or draw the rest of it). Also check out the Quality badges categories and backgrounds in the Style Guide, page 9. This probably qualifies as the 'proven tester' series?
Looking forward to seeing your design!

Hi, a2batic! This is much better! We reviewed your design and have some suggestions:
- there shouldn't be any space left between the panda and the lower edge of the inner circle. Consider either drawing the rest of the panda or make this one bigger and clip it. Should you need more info on clipping, check this tut http://www.ryanlerch.org/blog/inkscape-how-the-clip-function-works-mini-tutorial/
- on a bg like that, it may be more successful with a darker stroke and white letter
- the magnifying glass could be grey, and instead of a white stroke, use a darker grey and a light grey on the inside

Hi! Looks pretty great! Huge improvement if I remember the older design correctly. It would look even better if the magnifying glass was clipped to be the shape of the badge and if it had a thicker stroke (>1.5px as specified in badge design guidelines) . What do you think?

hi @a2batic, looking good with the spyglass cropped. Maybe reposition it so the bottom part is cropped by the badge area instead of just poking out. Can you try a version where the spyglass stroke is increased? Also, @mleonova mentioned earlier, the text "1" you are using is not standing off of the background because they are both light in color. Try using a contrasting outer color and a white letter, similar to this badge: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/froglet
