#489 [Onboarding Series] Quality Assurance
Closed: declined 4 years ago by riecatnor. Opened 7 years ago by a2batic.

Badge description (like "QA Badge"):

Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this badge is awarded for certain kinds of activities:
1) What are those activities?
'''Getting sponsored to QA group''': Badge awarded to past and future members in the FAS QA group

Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?

= Triaging ticket =

  • This ticket is three ideas: they have been split off into their own tickets (see #490 and #491)
  • Name/description added
  • Artwork concept added
  • Clearing assignment field until artist takes badge / uploads artwork

= Badge Metadata =

  • Name: Testing Monkey ''OR'' Everything I touch breaks
  • Description: You are a sponsored member of the Fedora Quality Assurance (QA) team!

= Badge background =

  1. Activities badge awarded for: Becoming sponsored into the Fedora QA FAS group
  2. Who does this: Newcomers to the QA team who successfully complete the on-boarding process
  3. Why do this: Grants official recognition / status as member of the QA team after participating as a regular contributor
  4. When do this: Once, when a newcomer becomes more experienced
  5. How do they do them: FAS group sponsors review new members who have applied

= Artwork concepts =

  1. '''Testing Monkey''': Monkey with wrenches / tools and a curious expression (or question mark over head)
  2. Everything I touch breaks: Panda sitting in front of computer, but computer has an error triangle /!\ on the screen, maybe with a bug icon there too - panda could be surprised or frustrated (shown with some kind of exclamation or visible shock from the rear side); this idea would recycle artwork from past badges using the "panda at computer chair" design

I have experimented on a badge. Thoughts?

Marking ticket as proposed artwork status - hopefully a Design Team member will be able to review and provide some feedback here. :)

Hi there!

I am not sure this design accurately portrays how we want our QA team to be represented.

I think it would be great to make something similar to this badge: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/famsco-member
and the panda could be holding a wrench or hammer

Hi riecatnor, Thanks for reviewing, I have come up with the following design on the basis of suggestion. Thoughts?

Hi riecatnor, Thanks for reviewing, I have come up with the following design on the basis of suggestion. Thoughts?

I like where this one is going. I'm not a designer, but this badge seems a little busy to me. I wonder if there would be a good way for us to simplify the panda, maybe a little like [https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/riddle-me-this Riddle Me This]? I'm not sure how that would look exactly, though… hopefully someone can give some more specific feedback.

Thanks jflory7 for adding your thoughts. I have come up with a little different idea, which looks little less busy.[[Image(https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-badges/raw-attachment/ticket/489/489_exp04.png)]]

Hi @a2batic, great work! Can you please draw legs so the panda could have the rest is the body? ;)) Also please consider clipping elements to fit the badge shape. Thank you!

@mleonova @riecatnor What are your thoughts on the new design? Does this badge look ready to push?

@a2batic, thanks for your continued work on this badge! I have a couple of changes to help make this badge fit the guidelines:
- It is a member badge, so a pink ring (community) and green background is needed to match other member badges.
- Composition seems a little funky. Please try centering your panda in the bg area.
- Since we are making this for Fedora Badges, I do not think the Fedora logo is necessary, unless you find an appropriate place to fit it into the design. Right now it is floating like a cloud :)
- Also, I think the name/description of the badge will speak for the "QA" part of it. I think it would be best to leave that text out.
- Hammer has a great shape and design! Only suggestion for that is to give it an stroke.

This badge would be a good badge to model yours after: https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge/commops-superstar

Thanks again, @a2batic, looking forward to what you come up with!
