#45 badges for voting

Created 4 years ago by ryanlerch
Modified 3 months ago

badges could be awarded for voting.

YOu could get badges for voting in the certain types of votes we have for each regularly or semi-regularly:

badge ideas:
i voted (first vote)
5 votes
10 votes
20 votes
FESCo,
Fedora board,
Release Name,
Supplemental Wallpapers

I think it's gonna work best to have a single ticket per badge (series) - could you split up the ideas into separate tickets? thanks!

Set triaged to 'yes' for all tickets, as I've hit them all already.

just put types back in, we'll try and handle bugs here too, no new trac.

FYI, the elections1 app (the one that everyone is familiar with) does not have fedmsg support.

fedmsg hooks were added to elections2 over a year ago, but it still hasn't been finished and deployed. That needs to be finished and deployed before we can do badges like these.

Doh. So I guess I shouldnt block naming election on badges suddenly working?

There was a disagreement on the devel list over whether or not to publish voting stats over fedmsg and it was decided that we not do that.

We'll need to copy the approach used by nuancier here in the elections app and simply allow people to 'click to claim' their voting badge.

Possible concepts for artwork: ballot box, with a slip going in. Slip could have a Fedora logo and/or the text "+1"

@msuchy, the artwork is looking great! Thanks for your work :)

I talked with ralph and the same process still needs to be used to award this badge, an opt in link on the voting page. He suggested that pingou could perhaps help us with this. We also need a list of all of the different elections/votes we have so we can create unique badges for each one. We will be unable to count up so instead we can do a yearly, per committee, etc, badge.

= Metadata =

  • '''Name''': I voted! (F25)
  • '''Description''': You voted for Fedora's leadership in the Fedora 25 election cycle!

= Notes =

  • Using release-specific badges for voting to encourage and bolster participation each and every election cycle may be better
  • Marking badge as manually awarded because the above method described by @ralph would require a link to be used for claiming the badge
  • Setting badge definition status to partial until elections2 status is confirmed
  • Reassigning to msuchy since he uploaded the last artwork

= Status update? =

So I see there was some discussion about the possibility of making this badge manually claimed in the Elections app. Is there any status or updates on this now? If so, it would be great if we could set this as a target item for the upcoming elections in December of this year. I think this would have a major impact on election participation.

I was not aware of this discussion, if this is something wanted, we should open a ticket on the election app so that it can be implemented.
Having done it in nuancier, doing it again here is not a problem :)

Excellent! [https://fedorahosted.org/elections/ticket/45 That ticket is now filed here] (ironically, ticket #45 in both Tracs). In the meanwhile, artwork development can still go on for this badge. :)
