Now, if you want to use PLAIN mech for SASL auth you need to have the passwords stored in cleartext. This is required because the authentication is done in the SASL library.
It would be great to find a way to use SASL SIMPLE with hashed passwords.
This could be simplemented using an internal SASL module for clear-text SASL mechs.
